The pair were introduced by a mutual friend and a few days later Kristin added Eric on Facebook (this was the very beginning of Facebook at Georgia State University). Eric accepted and they exchanged a few messages back and forth. Kristin sent Eric her number and told him to call her if he wanted to hang out. (Yep, Kristin made the first move!) They officially started dating in May 2005 and after six and a half years, Eric was ready to make it official...keep Kristin around forever.
During their courtship, they enjoyed college life and transitioned into the professional world; traveled the United States; took a trip to Dubai and Mauritius (thanks Mikrish!); suffered losses and welcomed new family members; laughed a lot and learned about themselves and each other.
Kristin and Eric balance each other out: he's the comedy and she's the serious of the relationship.
The engagement
Kristin and Eric spent Christmas 2011 in St. Augustine, Florida with Kristin's mother and grandparents. After Christmas, Eric traveled back to Atlanta and Kristin stayed in Florida; Eric was coming back down the next weekend with their friend Gordon to celebrate New Year's Eve. (Kristin, Eric and Gordon have spent the past eight consecutive New Year's Eves together.)
Unbeknownst to Kristin, Eric was back in Atlanta picking up the ring and asking Kristin's Dad for permission. (Thanks for keeping the secret, Carson.) When Eric got back to Florida, he gave Kristin a Lands' End box - a box she had been waiting for since June, six months earlier! Kristin immediately knew the contents of the box: a monogrammed zipper tote bag. Inside the tote bag pocket was a letter from Lands' End (that Eric crafted to look real). The letter stated they knew Kristin had waited six months for this bag and they were told Eric would "expedite the shipment of a new bag with the answer to his next question." Kristin was pretty confused. The bag she wanted was there, why did she need a new one?
Eric got down on one knee - in front of Kristin's mom, her grandparents, her younger brother and Gordon - and asked Kristin to marry him.
